Call For Participation

News

Requests for travel assistance to WISH are now closed. Participants who will receive support will be notified by March 8th.

Submissions of work to WISH are now closed, but attendance is open to all CHI attendees.  We hope that even those who did not submit content will join us for the event.

Submitting to WISH

Authors may present their work in one of two formats: Short Talks or Interactive Posters. Short Talks are brief oral presentations by the author, while interactive posters focus more on visual presentation and discussion between the author and attendees around the poster. We expect the majority of presentations to be interactive posters with a limited subset of people invited to give short talks. If you do not want to be considered for the short talk track, preferring only the poster presentation format, please make this known to the chairs. See also the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).

Submissions

Both short talk and poster submissions should submit an extended abstract of up to four pages in the ACM CHI extended abstracts format (four pages in the extended abstracts format is approximately two pages in a typical conference format). Abstracts shorter than four pages in the ACM extended abstracts format are also encouraged as appropriate. Accepted submissions are published in the WISH 2010 proceedings but not the ACM digital library. Authors retain all copyright. A submission should include:

  • A concise description of the idea(s)

  • Results, findings, or theoretical discussion

  • The implications of the work to the interdisciplinary community who may be present

  • Recommendations for further investigation
Full literature searches are not expected, although relevant citations should be included.

The paper and abstract, as submitted for review, will be regarded as the final publication-ready version of your submission. Therefore, the abstract and paper submission must be clearly written, carefully proofread, and correctly formatted.

How to Submit

Upload your submission in PDF format to the WISH Electronic Submission Web site by 5:00pm PST 6 January 2010 13 January 2010. Follow the instructions for the file upload and enter the requested information, including author information, keywords, and abstract. Note that the process of producing a PDF file of your submission can sometimes cause changes in the length of the contributions. Authors are advised to generate and check PDFs of their submissions to verify that their final submission stays within the length restrictions of the WISH submission process.

Review Criteria

Each submission will be reviewed based on the clarity of the results, the quality of the written presentation, its contribution to the interdisciplinary field of interactive systems for healthcare, and its ability to generate discussion and cross-pollination of ideas among participants. The submission’s suitability for presentation as a Short Talk or an Interactive Poster will be considered as well.

Review Process

Paper and poster submissions will be reviewed by a subset of the WISH steering committee. Submissions will be reviewed by 2 to 4 reviewers, and the individual reviews will be returned to the authors for feedback and guidance. Reviewing will be one-way blinded. That is, submissions will include authorship information, but reviewers will not be identified.

Confidentiality of submissions is maintained during the review process. All submitted materials for rejected papers will be kept confidential in perpetuity. All submitted materials for accepted papers will be kept confidential until the date of the workshop. Submissions should contain no information or materials that will be proprietary or confidential at the time of publication, and should cite no publications that will be proprietary or confidential at the time of publication.

Upon Acceptance

Authors will be notified by email of acceptance or rejection by 30 January 2010. The primary author of an accepted paper or poster will receive instructions on how to prepare for the conference, including details on talk length and poster presentation guidelines. Short talks consist of a 10-minute presentation with another 5 minutes for discussion. A digital projector will be available, but presenters are encouraged to bring their own laptops for their presentation. Interactive poster authors must attend their poster during a scheduled poster session for discussion with workshop attendees. We also encourage you to be available during breaks.
